Full disclosure: blue grama is not a typical native to the Missoula area (we are a hair west of its native range), but it is native to much of Montana. We have included this compact little bunchgrass because it is extremely drought tolerant and is short enough to be used along sidewalks and other places requiring a low-maintenance plant that won't out-grow its space or restrict sight lines. Thread-like foliage and adorable little eyebrow-like flower spikes add plenty of charm. Dense plantings of blue grama can replace turf grass in in areas that don't get too much foot traffic.
