Pinegrass is unique among our bunchgrasses in that it prefers dry partial shade over sunny sites. Beneath a pine canopy is an ideal spot (as the name might suggest). Compact clumps of thick green blades provide a nice contrast to flowering perennials like heartleaf arnica, aspen daisy, alumroot, slender cinquefoil, and menzies campion. Plants that get a little extra sun will develop their own delicate tawny flower heads.
