White prairie aster is a prelude to the first snowfall. Masses of little white flowers appear when the prairie is otherwise brown and dormant and snow is closer than the memory of spring. It’s a pollinator magnet, with an endless variety of tiny bees coming and going from upright, flower-covered stems. Prairie aster spends spring and early summer as a creeping mat of blue-green leaves, and is a nice filler between plants that bloom early and fade back, such as blanket flower, twin arnica, beebalm, oregon sunshine, clarkia, and penstemons.
